The British Soap Awards 2014!

Image

Oh The British Soap Awards! One of my TV highlights of the year! So many fit men! Oh yeah and great actors of course!

I was very pleased for both Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson who won numerous awards for their roles of Hayley and Roy Cropper in Coronation Street. Earlier in the year they broke all our hearts as Hayley left the soap in dramatic and emotional circumstances when her husband Roy helped her take her life after her struggle with cancer while I was also really happy for Hollyoaks in their win of the big award for Best Soap. I haven’t got to see it as much as I used to because I haven’t Channel 4 but I watched a lot of Hollyoaks growing up and I’ve watched some of the newer scenes online and it’s really good. It’s one of my favourite soaps. I was delighted that Kieron Richardson who plays Ste Hay in the Soap was nominated for Best Actor because I’ve admired him as an actor for years and he totally deserved that nomination. I’m a huge fan. And then of course Kieron did the speech for Hollyoaks when they won which I thought was fitting because he is so long with the soap.

Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilson were big winners on the night winning many awards including Best Actress, Best Actor and Best On-Screen Partnership!

Kieron Richardson was nominated for Best Actor on the night!

Hollyoaks won Best Soap!

Phillip Schofield reprised his role as presenter at The Hackney Empire for the 2014 Soap Awards and our Terry Wogan presented the first award of the night to Corrie for Hayley’s death for Best Single Episode beating off major competition from John Paul’s rape ordeal in Hollyoaks, Daniel’s depression in Doctors, Lucy’s death in Eastenders and Cameron’s Woolpack episode in which he inflicted torture on Chas and Debbie in Emmerdale.

David Seaman and David Weir were next up to present the next award. This time the award was for Spectacular Scene Of The Year with Emmerdale been triumphant for The Flood. It beat off stiff competition from the Hollyoaks blast (In which I must say the special effects were amazing), Johnny comes out to Mick in Eastenders and Nick and David’s crash in Corrie.

Ashley Roberts and Myleene Klass presented one of my favourite awards of the night – Sexiest Male. This year’s winner was Danny Mac from Hollyoaks who beat off stiff (ahem) competition from his Hollyoaks’ co-star Ashley Taylor-Johnson, Corrie’s Ryan Thomas, Eastenders’ Danny Dyer and Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden.

Dani Harmer and the very sexy Joey Essex presented the award for Best Young Performance to Ellis Hollins from Hollyoaks while soap legend Barbara Windsor presented the award for Outstanding Achievement (Off-Screen) to Carolyn Weinstein who is the company manager of EastEnders which was clearly well-deserved. I think I would be dizzy having to deal with that many people on a regular basis.

The award for Sexiest Female went to Michelle Keegan, who was accompanied by her fiance Mark Wright on the night, for the sixth year running. Michelle, who has already filmed her exit scenes in Coronation Street for her character Tina McIntyre which are currently been shown in the soap, beat off competition which included Jorgie Porter, Jacqueline Jossa, Jennifer Metcalfe and Georgia May Foote.

Vic Reeves presented the award for Best Comedy Performance with the adorable bulldog from Eastenders in tow. The winner was Simon Gregson for his role of Steve MacDonald in Corrie but he couldn’t be there so Charlie Lawson, who previously played his father in the soap, accepted the award on his behalf. He beat off stiff competition which included Sarah Moyle from Doctors and Laura Norton from Emmerdale.

Best Dramatic Performance went to David Neilson who bet off stiff competition from Lindsey Coulson from Eastenders and Charley Webb from Emmerdale. He is very witty and he thanked casting director Sue Pritchard who cast him in the role of Roy Cropper in 1995 “From the bottom of my mortgage.” He also spoke about how he had been on a flight and the air stewardess had given him what he was buying on the house because of all the years of joy he’d given via his role as Roy so he didn’t add the Kit Kat he’d been planning on getting too. David later won Best Actor in one of the strongest Best Actor categories in years and was presented with the award by writer Lynda La Plante. He beat off very stiff competition from Kieron Richardson from Hollyoaks, Danny Dyer from Eastenders, Jeff Hoardley from Emmerdale and Jeremy Sheffield from Doctors. Usually I feel there is three, maybe four great actors in the category but this year you could make a case for any of the five nominated actors on why they should win. Maybe it’s just a question of taste. They are all very natural actors and that is the kind of acting I love. There is quite a lot of great actors in soaps right now that that category could easily have had ten nominees but I must mention James Sutton who I definitely think should have got a nomination. Could they not have made it six for one year? 🙂 He’s an incredibly natural actor. Very gifted. David spoke about how he was working on a play in Bristol with Daniel Day-Lewis in a supporting role and his late mother asked him if he regretted leaving the Gas Board. That reminded me of my own mum. 🙂

Best Actress went to Julie Hesmondhalgh who played Roy’s On-Screen wife Hayley. Julie received the award from Colin Salmon and won ahead of other amazing actresses Hollyoaks’ Stephanie Davis, Lindsay Coulson, Lacey Turner and Nikki Saunders. She spoke about the encouragement her mum gave her and also thanked Lancashire County Council in her speech for the “Full Grant” which made me smile. My life story! 🙂

Julie and David also won Best On-Screen Partnership and Julie admitted it had been the one that they had most wanted.

The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Helen Worth who has played Gail McIntyre for four decades in Corrie and she was presented with the award by former On-Screen husband Brian Capron and casting director for Corrie Judi Hayfield.

Best Soap went to Hollyoaks and was presented by the legend that is Ian McKellen. Their speech was given by Kieron Richardson who told how one of thepress officer in Hollyoaks came and asked him to do the speech if they won this year and he was like “Oh whatever.” because they are always seen as the “underdog”. He said this was why he “had nothing except that team Hollyoaks have the best fans out there that have voted.” Brian Kirkwood, the executive producer also spoke. It was unexpected but I am so happy for them. It was very much deserved.

Richard Throp who played Alan Turner in Emmerdale was also remembered. He died earlier last year. May he rest in peace.

There was also a lot of fantastic style which there is every year. Notable looks on the style front came from Michelle Keegan, who wore a casually perfect monochrome outfit for the awards. Every detail ran through the outfit completely perfectly from her amazing blazer down to her monochrome heels. Her hair was also long, wavy and perfect. Best Actress winner Julie Hesmondhalgh also won in the style stakes in an amazing black dress with amazingly detailed floral sleeves. I also loved how she matched her red heels to her red lipstick and black and red are two colours which always go well together. Helen Worth also looked amazing for her big night with a beautiful light blue dress which was dainty and feminine and really suited her. She teamed the dress with simple matching heels and a clutch as well as a beautiful, glittering bracelet. But lads were not ready to be outdone with Kieron Richardson donning  a dark green jacket and black trousers combo. The black elements running through his outfit in the form of his tie and handkerchief ensured he looked very sophisticated and stylish. Eastenders’ Sam Strike also looked really on the night in a casual look with indie rock style elements such as the jacket, trousers and belt. The black shirt with whit dots also looked very stylish in the outfit while James Sutton looked fabulous on the night in a very understated suit. Other impressive style came from Keith Rice, Danny Dyer, Joe Gill, Jacqueline Jossa, Giorgia May Foote  and Ashley Roberts.

Michelle Keegan wowed in monochrome!

Helen Worth went for a demure, feminine look!

James Sutton and Keith Rice looked very dapper on the night!

Sam, Danny and co looking stylish!

Georgia May Foote wore a stunning flowing dress with fabulous detailing around the neck!

The Amazing Style Of Alanis Morissette!

Image

For as long as I can remember I have been a huge, huge Alanis Morissette fan! I always loved her music especially Ironic and Jagged Little Pill has to be one of the best albums ever made. I also always admired how she was one of the only females in the very male-dominated world of rock music and she succeeded so much in this world and deservedly so. Growing up and to this day she has been a huge inspiration musically, in her doing so incredibly in a world in which more men are successful and in her rock, casual style. In fact Alanis can be blamed by my mum for me continually dressing in a rock style with long hair mostly and the fact that I continue on singing. Though she’s supportive I know these elements annoy her! 🙂

Fashion Sense

Her style is mainly casual and there is primarily black, white and blue in her style’s colour palette but she does wear splashes of yellow, red and gold too. Her clothes are so rocky and her look just looks so effortless and relaxed which is a quality I love in looks. That easy-breezy look even if it did take a long time for a person to create. Alanis has also wore one quite fabulously eccentric fuzzy purple jacket. Another look which was really fab was her country/rock look with a brown jacket, blue jeans and a white top accessorised with a belt while she wore a hippy style dress that was amazing. Though Alanis would be more known for her casual rock look, she is also a queen of sophisticated style when needs be although there is usually a slightly rocky or Gothic take on the sophisticated look. I also love the checked blouse she wore at her “Love Soup” party.

Make-up

Alanis has always had a very natural take on make-up. She doesn’t wear lots of it but her key area in terms of make-up always seems to be her eyes. The focus seems to be on getting that wonderful rock smoky effect which I love. It’s amazing. She mostly going for an understated lip gloss although she has sported red lipstick on occasion too. And I love how she matched her blue eyeliner to her outfit once too. That was a great effect. And of course she wears very rocky nail varnish on both her fingernails and toenails.

Hair

Probably one of the major things I love about Alanis’ style is her hair. I love the long dark hair. Messy but neat. It is so rocky and I never changed my hair colour because I was born with the hair colour I wanted. The same hair colour as Alanis Morissette’s and though I am thinking of changing it soon just for a change it is probably going to be the colour I’ll come back to. When I was a kid I didn’t have long hair. I did when I was a teenager and onwards apart from of course when you have to get it cut so it isn’t down to your feet! And I would hate seeing it on the ground in a hairdressers. Still do actually. Probably always will. Alanis also has had amazing blonde hair too.

James Byron Goes To The Courtney Love Concert In Nottingham Rock City!

James Byron has shared pics on his Twitter and Facebook pages from the Courtney Love gig in Nottingham Rock City with Micko and Shawn from Courtney’s band. Micko’s actually quite easy on the eye. I think I might be in love! Hehe! 🙂

It is Love’s first UK tour since her former band Hole’s 2010 tour and the tour comprises of eight tour dates in Nottingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and two shows in London.

He sported a fab Courtney/Hole t-shirt, black trousers with white stripes and with his trademark blonde hair back for the concert.

The Incredible Style of James Byron!

From his fashion sense to his make-up to his hair colour choices I am in awe of the style of Leicester singer/songwriter James Byron who appeared on this year’s Voice UK contest on BBC.

His style is androgynous and rock ‘n’ roll and James has said of his style,

“Androgyny is part of my style. I really respect women a lot and I don’t see any shame in looking like a woman. I don’t dress up too crazily, but I do wear feminine make-up so I do get people judging me when I walk down the street.”

Fashion Sense

With a colour palette composed mainly of dark colours and amazing accessories such as bandanas, chains and bracelets as well as denim jeans, his style shifts easily from casual to sophisticated and looks effortless and relaxed either way. He is excellent at putting looks together which is not an easy thing to do and make them look that perfect. The pieces he puts together look like they have come straight from the rock ‘n’ roll days of the past. He also does the theme of the same colour running through his look really well such as the grey in his Battle round in the Voice or in matching his top to his lipstick. In terms of brighter colours purple and red are colours that James seems to include in his looks a lot and they go really well with the darker shades he wears.

Make-up

His make-up is amazing. There is a whole David Bowie/Adam Ant look to his make-up. And his penchant for red lipstick, which he admits was inspired by one of his idols Courtney Love, is just fabulous. But the part which I think is the most amazing is how perfectly he gets that whole rock/smoky eye look. (Never attempt to get that look when you are a bit drunk! Yes I am talking from experience!) It is really fab. I love his eye make-up. It always just looks so edgy and amazing. Like so many people with a rock ‘n’ roll style, James puts fabulous nail varnish too on his nails. It’s the little things that count!

Hair

James has experimented with his hair a bit. At the moment it is red, like his favourite Disney character Ariel and prior to that he had one of this season’s most popular hair shades pastel purple. Obviously we all seen his blonde hair on The Voice and in the past he has had black hair too. The maddening thing is that he looks amazing with every one of these colours! 🙂 On a side note I also loved his mum’s hair on The Voice. It was fabulous! 🙂

The Amazing James Byron!

Poem: Dad

Image

I think of him in earnest,

For these few minutes my mind is not at rest,

For he is no longer earthly

And the scars hurt so deeply

And easily.

I think of him with love,

And wonder how he has adapted up above,

His humour should help with the other deceased,

To life we are only leased,

This I understand but it doesn’t mean my pain has decreased.

I think of my father every day,

And think of how he has moulded me into who I am in such and such a way,

Of his smile,

How he must have looked on his wedding day at the top of the aisle

And how he has prepared my sister and I for each and every future trial.

Poem: Man Of The Future

Image

His smile is luminous,

His eyes are as deep as glaciers,

He is warm and kind,

That is so difficult to find,

In his grey skinny jeans,

He is voluminous.

I long to know this man who is so soft and good,

To talk to him,

I would love him,

I know I would,

He makes me feel like less a fool

In a world that is so often cruel.

He is quite insecure,

And he doesn’t need to be.

I wish my life would bring me on a tour

To where it would be you and me

And we could always be happy,

I hope to you I don’t seem too sappy.

Poem: Free

I once was so entrapped by you,

So caught under your spell,

In love with you so true,

Not in your circle and thus going through hell.

I once loved you,

I once wanted to be such a major part of your life,

I’m so ambitious but I’d have given up everything to be your girlfriend or wife.

But now …

I am free.

I am free from your hold,

Not out in the cold,

Free to be me.

The Amazing Style of Rebekah Shelton!

I absolutely love Rebekah Shelton’s style. I find myself popping around charity shops looking for gear trying to replicate her style. I don’t look half as good as her but I try!

I love her personality too. She was a huge inspiration to me in Big Brother back in 2010 and still is.

Here is just some of Rebekah’s best fashion successes:

Union J’s Top JCat Oreo Dies. May He Rest In Peace.

I was really sad to hear about the death of Union J star Josh Cuthbert’s and his mate Jordan’s cat Oreo.

I love animals and I know the bond that exists between a pet and their owner from personal experience. I had a dog called Cookie for 12 years and he died in 2010. My family and I were heartbroken.

We still in a world sadly where people say it’s only a cat or it’s only a dog but pet owners know the pain that other pet owners go through on losing their pet when they have been through it themselves. You don’t just lose a pet, you lose your best friend, a pet who is like part of your family because they have been with you so long and a part of yourself really.

I was very sad to hear of Oreo’s death. Oreo was this sweet, little cat and I adored him as I do all the Union J pets. It is heartbreaking and then you see his little face again and it’s even more sadder.

Josh posted the following tweets on Twitter about Oreo:

#RIPOreo also trended on Twitter.

Here is Josh’s individual twitcam with little Oreo:

My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Josh, Jordan and everyone concerned at this sad time. May Oreo rest in peace.

The Fabulous Callum Crowley!

Wales’ Callum Crowley first appeared on our screens on The Voice UK looking smoking hot and singing Usher’s Climax to perfection with that sexy falsetto of his before joining Team Will when he had a choice between three coaches – Kylie, Ricky and Will. His fellow Welshman Tom had tried to hit the buzzer but unfortunately was out of time.

Callum went on to the battles where he faced stiff competition from the immensely talented Tom Barnwell as the pair sang Michael Jackson’s hit from the best selling Thriller P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing). Callum got the nod to go through by Will and thus progressed to the Knockouts stage of the competition where he sang Girls Aloud’s Sound Of The Underground. This was sadly the end of his journey on the BBC show.

Callum shone on the show with his talent, personality, sexiness and style. Who can forget the outfit he wore for the battle stages? And here I have compiled some of Callum’s best music for you. Enjoy! 🙂
