Poem: Break Free

Photo by Mohamed Nohassi on Unsplash

He feels so distant,

so closed off,

so unsure,

so frightened,

he wants to be liked

but not at all costs

but it feels like that’s the only way to be liked,

fear eats him up,

he wants to be loved

but that requires putting himself out there,

that’s terrifying for him,

how does he get over that mental block?

Free the inner,

break through to the outer,

live,

be free

in a world that isn’t free.

5 Videos To Watch This Week On YouTube!

Hi everybody! 🙂

Here is my five suggestions for this week.

Social Issues

Firstly from Al Jazeera English here is a report about how women in Uganda are facing sexual assault and harassment as well as much discrimination. It is a very interesting report to hear about how women are fighting back but it is also a very harrowing report. I hope the women who face this abuse get justice.

Make-Up

Here is Nikkie Tutorials interviewing current Eurovision winners MĂ…NESKIN from Italy and doing Damiano from the band’s make-up. Really interesting interview and a great look. It was great to see them both collaborating here together after Nikkie was one of this year’s Eurovision presenters.

Music

Here is Jennifer Hudson on Elle’s Song Association. This was very fun and hearing all the different snippets of the different songs being sung by Jennifer in the game was brilliant. She certainly knows her music very well too without giving too much away! 🙂

Going back to Eurovision here is Cesár Sampson with Nobody But You. Cesár finished third in 2018 with this track for Austria. I love the song and the music video and I just think Cesár’s vocal is amazing.

Finally for today here is Troye Sivan’s could cry just thinkin about you. The song is really beautiful and is beautifully sung by Troye and the music video is great too.

5 Videos To Watch This Week On YouTube!

Hi everybody! 🙂

Here is my five video suggestions for this week.

Social Issues

First is episode 14 in the excellent Black American History series on Crash Course’s channel with Clint Smith. In this episode Clint talks about Maria Stewart, David Walker, William Lloyd Garrison and how black women faced and still do face adversity for having their opinions. Clint also talks about how his daughter who is two is very opinionated and how he and his wife encourage her to be. That was really lovely to hear. It’s so very beautiful that they encourage and support that about her. An excellent episode as per usual in this amazing series.

Secondly we have a brilliant documentary from Timeline about Rosa Parks entitled Rosa Parks: A Global Icon Who Stood Up To Tyranny. Such a wonderful woman and a really interesting documentary. There is a lot in the documentary about the civil rights movement at the time too and what black people faced in this period.

Next up from KD Hall Foundation we have a short documentary called Untold Stories of Black Women in the suffrage movement. The documentary is really interesting. We get to hear about Ida B. Wells, Anna Julia Cooper, The National Association of Colored Women, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Music

Next we have Rumors by Lizzo featuring Cardi B. I love this track and music video. The song is so catchy and filled with lyrics of standing up for yourself and loving yourself. The music video is so creative. Love this. Go ladies! 🙂

Finally we have Give Me Your Love by Sigala featuring John Newman and Nile Rodgers. Very, very catchy. A real bop. The music video is great too. The dancing is superb.

5 Videos To Watch This Week On YouTube!

Hi everybody! 🙂

Here is my five suggestions for this week.

Social Issues

Richelle Carey speaks with Pashtana Durrani and Brett Bruen in this segment for Al Jazeera English about the Taliban taking over Afghanistan. A really interesting segment. It’s so sad what is happening. I hope for this oppression the people of Afghanistan face to end and for them to find peace.

Music

Next we have Be Kind Rewind’s video about Madonna’s classic references. I found this video very interesting. A lot of research was clearly done and I learned a lot about Madonna’s inspirations and career. She was very ahead of her time and fearless which I think is really cool.

From 1964, here is a great performance by The Drifters of Under The Boardwalk. A real classic and a really cute, romantic tune.

Next we have the music video for Another Night by Aretha Franklin. I love the song and the music video. Really amazing.

Relaxation

Finally here is a really relaxing ASMR video from Tyler at Silver Hare YouTube channel.

French Vegetarian Cooking: In a Nutshell By Marie-Pierre Moine Review!

French Vegetarian Cooking: In a Nutshell (1999) by Marie-Pierre Moine is a really great cookbook.

It is very short and is very accessible for beginners to cooking French vegetarian food. There is great information about nutrition and the best vegetables to get, a section about herbs and spices, some advice about preparation and cooking tips and what essentials you need in your storecupboard. There is lots of great recipes including Green Salad With Walnuts, Potato And Watercress Soup, Provencale Soup, Tomato Tart, Potato Gratin, Stuffed Tomatoes and Carmelized Upside Down Apple Tart. There is information on regional variations which is very interesting. Also there is a list of further reading material and addresses which might be useful.

It is a really interesting, easy to follow book with a great variety of recipes. A lot of cooking terms are explained very well and it is a really good introduction to French vegetarian food and how to make it.

Enjoyable and interesting.

Pan-Cooked Chicken Dishes – Recipes From Around The World Review!

Pan-Cooked Chicken Dishes – Recipes From Around The World (1998) is an excellent book with recipes which include chicken from all around the world.

There is recipes from numerous countries such as Thai Red Chicken Curry (Thailand), Honey & Mustard Chicken Salad (Australia), Caribbean Chicken (Jamaica), Spiced Rice Chicken Parcels (Lebannon), Chicken Kiev (Ukraine) and Chicken Piri-Piri (Portugal).
