5 Videos To Watch This Week On YouTube!

Hi everyone! 🙂

It is that time of the week again! Here is my five video suggestions for this week:

Music

I have been a huge Scissors Sisters fan for a long time and Take Your Mama was one of their songs back in day (Jaysus, I’m old! :-)) that you would hear everywhere. Brilliant song, brilliant music video. 🙂

I think I went on a bit of a nostalgia trip this week because Mika is another artist I have been a long-time fan of. Relax, Take It Easy is very much an anthem kind of song, very festival-like and the words really we all need to do sometimes. Again great bop and an equally great video. 🙂

I feel there is a pattern emerging here because I am also a long-time fan of Ne-Yo. If you don’t know my age by now, you are probably beginning to guess it. Our music definitely tells on us! 🙂 This is Ne-Yo’s Beautiful Monster, excellent music video, brilliant song. And quite a cool song for a Halloween playlist too. 🙂

Fashion

Thank god I finally came to the present day! 🙂 This is Moschino’s Spring/Summer collection 2021. The clothes are gorgeous, they always are with Moschino but what really gets me about this collection is the way the show was created with puppets. Very inventive and creative by Jeremy Scott and his team. Really fun. Very storytelling. 🙂

Make-Up/Drag

I am absolutely loving Bob The Drag Queen’s Addams Family Series at the moment. In this episode, she does a make-up tutorial of Morticia Addams. Absolutely stunning! 🙂

5 Videos To Watch This Week!

It is that time of week again y’all! 🙂 Here are five picks to watch this week! 🙂

History

In this episode of Geographics, the history of The Cecil Hotel is investigated where many tragic incidents have happened over the years. A very interesting episode. I had heard a bit about the horrific history of The Cecil Hotel prior to watching the episode but learned so much more here.

Fashion

I love 60s fashion. It is one of my favourite decades from fashion history so this video was great.

In this episode of Out Of The Closet, RuPaul’s Drag Race runner-up Peppermint (highest placed female contestant in Drag Race herstory, you go girl! :-)) shows us some of her amazing fashion. A really interesting watch which looks at both looks from her run on Drag Race and outside of the show.

Hair

I found this really interesting. I have long hair and often I tie it up in a ponytail but I don’t really think about the history of the various ponytail styles so this was really interesting to get to see how the ponytail has transformed throughout the decades.

Music

I absolutely love this song by Sara Bareilles. It comes from the musical Waitress. I can relate a lot to the lyrics of this song. And the video is beautifully done too.

5 YouTube Videos To Watch This Week!

YouTube considering moving child content to YouTube Kids - 9to5Google

Here in a new feature on this blog. I hope it will give you some interesting and varied viewing. I am by nature a very curious person, always have been since I was a child and I love to learn so my viewing can be diverse as hell, you have been warned! I hope at least some of the topics will be of interest and I plan to do this weekly so without further ado and rambling from me, here is five YouTube video recommendations to watch this week. 🙂

Music

This powerful song has been put along alongside some powerful images here. We see activists who are ordinary people as well as well-known activists for the rights of people of color like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. Highlighted too are the rights of women and LGBTQAI+ people. A very emotional watch.

Social Issues

I am very socially-conscious but I hadn’t heard about Juneteenth until very recently. This video explains very well something I must look more into. Please do watch this video which talks about the day and it’s connections to slavery and the emancipation of so many people of color. It isn’t easy obviously to watch because the fact people were treated in that way is utterly disgusting but we need to acknowledge that terrible history and do better by our brothers, sisters and non-binary people of color.

TV

I am a huge fan of Aquaria and this is the opening episode of her On/Off series where she was out in the Philippines last year. A very interesting series detailing many of her work engagements from last year.

Relaxation

We all need a moment to relax, destress and get ourselves ok again. I have recently got into ASMR as a way to relax and I love videos by Mads Asmr. In this video, Maddie is scratching, raking and pinching and plucking away your stress.

Film

I am a huge Sister Act fan and this scene with Sister Mary Clarence/Deloris Van Cartier and Sister Alma never fails to make me laugh.

Versace By Nicola White & Catherine McDermott Review!

Versace (2000) by Catherine McDermott & Nicola White is a vibrant and stylish book and therefore a wonderfully perfect tribute to the late fashion legend Gianni Versace.

This is a short and compact book which tells Gianni’s story inbetween photographs of his many iconic looks throughout his years at the top of his game. His story is very interesting and the pictures are arranged stunningly. Each of the two elements really help bring the opposite element alive and work brilliantly together. The book tells of his early childhood in Reggio Calabria in Italy with his mother who was a dressmaker and very encouraging to his dreams, his father, his two older sisters Donatella and Tina who died at 12 and his older brother Santo. He worked in his mother’s sewing business until he left for Milan at the age of 26. He eventually found both success and love after meeting model Antonio D’Amico in 1982. Reading how this talented man was also introverted shows that introverted ain’t the terrible barrier to success many would have you believe. He comes across as a nice man with much determination and a great work ethic who deserved all the success and happiness he got in life. It’s just so very sad that his life was cut so cruelly short.

The pictures are wonderful and detail various aspects of his career from the many runways and collections he did featuring a host of the super chic 1990s supermodels, Liz Hurley’s Safety Pin dress as well as many photographs with celebrity friends like the late Princess Diana. The style of the book is part coffee table glam with the pictures and part nerdy fashion history searching with the written pieces. Pretty perfect combination! There’s something in this book for everyone whether it’s the style you’re interested in or Gianni’s life and rise to success.

There is also many quotes throughout this book from Gianni which add to the book showing much of the story from his aspect in a small way. There isn’t much new here for anyone who knows a lot about Gianni’s life and career but it is a great trip down memory lane for those who do and a great introduction for those who don’t. A very interesting short read with excellent and well-captured photographs.

The book speaks about his murder in 1997 in Miami and no matter how many times you hear the story of how he died, it always makes me feel sad as a fellow person and a fan. His life being took away like that so senselessly is horrible and must have been so difficult for Antonio and the rest of his family to bear at the time. That part of the book was emotional to read.

However his legacy lives on through his shining talent and wonderful personality. This book is for fashion fans and non-fashion fans alike which shows the way he crossed many fields and touched many peoples’ lives whether that was through his creativity, his personality or his ability to merge the fields of fashion and celebrity so well. He deserved all the success and good things he got in life.

A fantastic read about a great designer and a great man.

Six Great Outfits From BB2017!

In my second last BB blog post I will be talking fashion baby! The following is my six favourite outfits from the season …

Andrew’s Rock/New Romantics Outfit

Personally I think Andrew had the best dress sense in the house. But I’ve picked his rock/ New Romantics outfit as a highlight:

Ellie’s Teal Dress

Ellie’s teal dress in the house was admired by me, my mum and my sister. She very much got this right. Sadly I couldn’t find a pic of it but I had to mention it.

Sue’s Hippie-Style Dress

Sue has great style. Very oriental and very colourful so it was difficult to pick one outfit but I’ve picked this hippie-style dress below:

Hannah & Deborah

Again Hannah and Deborah have many great outfits to choose from but I have chosen their matching gold outfits as a highlight:

Joe’s Black Catwalk-Style Outfit

Joe has great style and I’ve picked this outfit with his eviction outfit a close second:

Savannah’s Eviction Outfit

I loved Savannah’s very stylish eviction outfit below:

Marc Jacobs Resort 2017 Review!

Marc Jacobs Resort 2017 is a stunning collection brimming with colour. There is lots of pieces with a rock, androgynous or hippie vibe which always warms my heart. Just such a beautiful retro collection. In particular some of the jackets are amazing creations. I love them. And a stunning brown leather skirt which I can imagine teamed with a large belt would look super hippie-like. Right I’m on to raid the charity shops for cheap versions of the looks! 🙂

Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2016!

First off the layout of Marc Jacobs’ show for Spring/Summer was great. Very inventive. The way the models walked on the red carpet in front of photographers before going in to walk in front of the orchestra was visually brilliant and original. I’ll be the first to admit that often I don’t know the music from fashion shows so it was great to hear Trash by The New York Dolls. Love that song and that band in general.

The collection is a stunningly unique collection with some pretty funky pieces. The music accompanied the looks really well as many of the looks had a rock vibe to them. There is some stunning prints. Overall the collection is vibrant and original with a brilliant retro vibe.

Here is some of the great looks from the catwalk:
