5 YouTube Videos To Watch This Week!

Hey everyone! 🙂

It is that time of week again. Here is my five recommendations to watch this week:

Social Issues

This video talks about many signs to watch out for in regards to gaslighting. It is something which I have faced in my life and I think it is important that people know the signs because it can be incredibly dangerous when one doesn’t know them as I know from experience myself. Keep yourself and your mind safe y’all. It can be fragile even though you think it never could be.

Life Advice

Here is a great video about things which can be helpful mainly in health situations. I think I’m going to miss using my butter to ease my pain. Main advice from here: go to the hospital!

Music

This is a great bop by Janelle Monáe. I love the video of Make Me Feel too which is so fun, creative and a celebration of pansexuality and panromanticism.

Featuring queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race alongside the fabulous Lizzo, this smash Juice is great to dance to and is a fantastic, fun video too.

Photography

I found this a very interesting story about the famous photograph from 1932 called Lunch atop a Skyscraper. This short video speaks about the story behind the photograph. Many men from different backgrounds literally risked their lives while they were working as construction workers on the Rockefeller Center. Actually the photographers did too. While it is thought that the actual photograph was staged, there is still no denying that these men were up there regularly working in a very dangerous situation and were certainly heroes. The photographers even were to do it for the day! I would never! Very interesting video.

Fashion photographer Damon Baker hails from a small town in Worcestershire in England and like many people from small towns the 25-year-old photographer is making a big mark in his chosen creative field of fashion photography. He has already photographed Jared Leto, Shannon Leto, James Franco, Courtney Love, Michelle Williams, Ellie Goulding, Mark Ronson, Jonathan Groff, Mr Hudson, Candice Huffine, Jourdan Dunn, Cara Delevingne, George Shelley, Agyness Deyn, Jessie J, David Gandy, Paris Hilton and Fearne Cotton amongst many more and has three very regular muses that he photographs Andreja Pejic, Rita Ora and Taylor Swift.

The three things that hit you instantly about Baker’s photography or at least hit me instantly are the naturalness he seems to bring out of his subjects, the retro feel and the sense that there is a narrative to the photographs. It’s all very well taking pictures that look visually brilliant which Baker does but if there’s no sense of story that drags you into the photograph well there’s not much point, is there? And Baker in his work certainly doesn’t overlook this aspect. Possibly it’s the writer in me that loves a sense of narrative in everything.

Art & Photography By Holly Norval!

Leicester’s Holly Norval has created some lovely photography and art, some of which I’ve put up below as well as links to see more of her work. I noticed while I was getting the pictures together (and cooing over Noggin) that there is quite a few talented artists and photographers out there that maybe I hadn’t heard of before so over time I hope to feature a few of them as well. 🙂

Noggin. Aw. So cute! :-)

November Bray Arts Night!

I had been saying for a while that I would go to the Bray Arts Night which is on every month here in Bray and this month myself and my sister went along to enjoy the night and enjoy the night we most certainly did! It was a fabulous night of photography, music and the spoken word. It was all amazing and I felt rather at home like it was a haven for nerdy, expressive types. I almost wanted to join them on stage!

Everyone was so talented. There was a brilliant photographer called Aoife Hester who displayed wonderful photographs of Bray Seafront and pics of Cavan which reminded me and Shar of our days living in the country, The Circle Sessions who had blues, indie rock, comedy music, thought-provoking poetry and some Shakespeare, amazing belly dancing from The Zoryanna and the night was ended with the wonderful opera and jazz instrumentals combined with the stunning vocals of Aran McMahon of Bella Notte Euro Jazz.

It was an amazing night of entertainment in the Martello and the bar was behind us all night. That was quite fab too! 🙂
