Coca-Cola Cuts Out Gay Wedding Section In It’s New Advert

I believe strongly in gay marriage and was angry that Coca-Cola took out the gay marriage scene from their newest ad in Ireland

I am Irish and I am absolutely fuming that Coca-Cola have taken the gay marriage section out of their new advert. I love the concept of the advert that for all the bad things that happen in the world lots of good things do too but this has spoiled it because I believe very strongly in gay rights and it saddens me that the scene was cut from our advert.

Gay rights activists are rightly angry at Coca-Cola about the scene been cut and yet shown in the United Kingdom and Norway. The Irish gay publication Eile Magazine spotted that the scene was missing from the advert when it came to be shown in Ireland. The Irish version showed an interracial marriage. A Coca-Cola spokesperson said that the Irish advert failed to include the gay wedding because gay marriage is not legal in Ireland.

“We wanted each ad to be relevant and valid for its own market,” the spokesperson said.

Eile Magazine then reported that the wedding used in the UK and Norway adverts came from a civil union in Australia, where gay marriage is currently not legal yet either. Also Eile Magazine said how Coca-Cola’s reasons were not true because gay marriage is not legal in all of the United Kingdom, namely Scotland and Northern Ireland, even if it is legal in England and Wales.
