I loved Viola’s Davis’ red gown on the night. I love the sparkles at the top and the fabric is wonderfully luxurious.

Alicia Vikander

Nominated for Best Actress on the night for her role in The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander looked stunning in this understated, beautiful gown.

I have always loved Lupita Nyong’o’s style and her outfit on the night was yet another fashion success. There is a wonderful hippie quality to the dress which is always brilliant and her bag matches beautifully with her dress. One of my three favourite outfits on the night.

Saoirse Ronan

Winner of Best Supporting Actor in a series, mini-series or TV movie for his role in The Normal Heart, Matt Bomer looked amazing in his very classic blue suit and matched his dickey bow brilliantly to his shoes which made me smile because the shoes reminded me of the type of shoes my dad loved and of course my dad was a very stylish man so clearly Matt Bomer is too.

The Golden Globes 2014!

U2 had the luck of the Irish last night! Well done boys!

The Golden Globes were on last night where David O Russell’s American Hustle won three statuettes, including the prize for best comedy or musical while Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave won best drama. Meanwhile best director was won by the very witty Alfonso Cuáron for Gravity.

Best foreign language film went to Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty and best screenplay went to Spike Jonze’s Her.

There was an Irish winner in U2’s Ordinary Love, from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Bono spoke about working on the film and said how it completed a decades-long journey with Mandela, having played an anti-apartheid concert 35 years ago. “This man turned our life upside down, right-side up,” he said of the late Mandela who sadly passed away last month. “A man who refused to hate not because he didn’t have rage or anger or those things, but that he thought love would do a better job.”

Larry Mullen said: “Not only South Africa, but thanks to Mandela, the course of history in our country, holy Catholic Ireland, was changed forever. Amen.”

Michael Fassbender from Kerry who was nominated for his role as a plantation owner in 12 Years a Slave lost out to Jared Leto who plays a HIV-positive transsexual female in Dallas Buyers Club in the best supporting section. Meanwhile Matthew McConaughey won best actor in a drama for Dallas Buyers Club.

Jennifer Lawrence won the best supporting actress for American Hustle while Amy Adams won best actress in a comedy or musical for the same film while Leonardo DiCaprio won the best actor in the musical/comedy division for Wolf of Wall Street.

Cate Blanchett won also for her role in Woody Allen’s Jasmine Blue.

Philomena, based on an Irish woman’s story to find her son, was nominated in best picture while Breaking Bad, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Behind the Candelabra each won two awards in the television sections.

Woody Allen won the lifetime achievement award.

Presenters on the night were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Comment below and let me know if you enjoyed the show and whether you thought the right people won each award! 🙂
