Vicente’s Scottish National Win!

Ayr Races - Coral Scottish Grand National - Scottish Grand National Day

I didn’t get around to writing up this blog post on dear old Vicente’s splendid Scottish National win because of college assignments. So here it is now everyone. 🙂

200854

Paul Nicholls’ Vicente stormed to victory at  14-1 with Sam Twiston-Davies at Ayr. Alvarado made a surging finish to get second while Seeyouatmidnight finished in third position with Royale Knight in fourth and Vyta Du Roc in fifth.

Nicholls said,

“It was a brilliant result. You try all season to win these big races and a few of them have eluded us but that was a special moment. That was one of Sam’s best ever rides, I’d say. He’s learning all the time and he’s a fantastic guy. This has been the target for Vicente all season. I thought Cheltenham would do him good and you don’t win these races without a prep run.”

I won a bit of money on my dear old friend Alvarado so that was good. 🙂

Well done Vicente and all concerned! 🙂 And of course Alvarado and all concerned! 🙂

My Top Tips For The Aintree National 2014!

So one of the annual horse racing events of the year is almost upon us – yes that’s right, the English Grand National! I have been obsessed over the past few days trying to pick the winner and have compiled my list of my top five tips. Read my list below:

Balthazar King

The amazing Balthazar King has excellent form with a string of wins behind his name including a recent cross-country win at Cheltenham. Cross-country races seem more his bag but I think he is a very talented horse who should not be ruled out here.

Price: 20/1

Jockey: Richard Johnson

Trainer: Philip Hobbs

Owner/s: The Brushmakers

Raz De Maree

Previous Cork and Munster National winner Raz De Maree seems to be returning to form with a recent 3rd at Down Royal following some weak results and any horse from the Dessie Hughes yard should never be ignored lightly.

Price: 50/1

Jockey: Davy Condon

Trainer: Dessie Hughes

Owner/s: James J Swan

Hawkes Point

The Welsh National runner-up is one that could fly to victory!

Price: 33/1

Jockey: Ryan Mahon

Trainer: Paul Nicholls

Owner/s: C G Roach

The Package

Recently coming 3rd at Cheltenham behind two excellent horses in Holywell and Ma Filleule who both stormed home in their races at Aintree this year. I had the latter backed so well done to both but especially Ma Filleule! If this form is anything to go by this horse is one to watch!

Price: 20/1

Jockey: Tom Scudamore

Trainer: David Pipe

Owner/s: The Johnson Family

Rose Of The Moon

This is a real outsider but it did have a recent good win. The other night I kept running my pen up and down the list of runners with my eyes closed and it kept landing on this North Lincolnshire horse. Yes, that is the main reason it was one of the horses I backed but hey it’s a lottery!

Price: 50/1

Jockey: Jake Greenall

Trainer: David O’ Meara

Owner/s: Middleham Park Racing XXXIII & Partners

P.S. Good luck & don’t hate me if they lose! 🙂
