The Golden Globes took place recently and as always was a night brimming with fashion as well as movie wins. Below is my favourite outfits from one of the highlights on the fashion and movie calenders:

I loved Viola’s Davis’ red gown on the night. I love the sparkles at the top and the fabric is wonderfully luxurious.

Alicia Vikander

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Nominated for Best Actress on the night for her role in The Danish Girl, Alicia Vikander looked stunning in this understated, beautiful gown.

Lupita Nyong’o

I have always loved Lupita Nyong’o’s style and her outfit on the night was yet another fashion success. There is a wonderful hippie quality to the dress which is always brilliant and her bag matches beautifully with her dress. One of my three favourite outfits on the night.

Saoirse Ronan

Our very own Saoirse Ronan was nominated on the night for Best Actress for her role in Brooklyn and like Alicia Vikander chose a beautiful understated white gown with a stunning trail.

Emma Stone

Nominated for Best Actor on the night for his role in The Danish Girl, Eddie Redmayne looked amazing in his very classic suit. The velvet look of the jacket is stunning.

Matt Bomer

Winner of Best Supporting Actor in a series, mini-series or TV movie for his role in The Normal Heart, Matt Bomer looked amazing in his very classic blue suit and matched his dickey bow brilliantly to his shoes which made me smile because the shoes reminded me of the type of shoes my dad loved and of course my dad was a very stylish man so clearly Matt Bomer is too.

Looking very classic on the night was our very own Jamie Dornan who also wore shoes that looked like shoes my dad liked to wear so again another very stylish man.

Jared Leto

The Famous Oscars Selfie!

Image

Selfies are the new craze! I know how to take them. Not so good at uploading them but I think their fab! 🙂 And the famous Oscars selfie from this year’s ceremony which included host Ellen DeGeneres, Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie,  Channing Tatum, Lupita Nyong’o, Julia Roberts, Peter Nyong’o and Meryl Streep and taken by Bradley Cooper.

Poor old Twitter couldn’t cope with the selfie which broke retweeting records with 2.3 million retweets.

DeGeneres later said at the awards the photograph had crashed Twitter.

“We really just made history. We’re all winners tonight,” she said to the crowd.

The Oscars 2014!

Presented this year by the amazingly funny Ellen DeGeneres (Who is so funny and down-to-earth that if I was gay I would fancy her.) the 86th Oscars was another fab ceremony. Last year’s Best Supporting Actress winner Anne Hathaway presented the award for Best Supporting Actor to the handsome, talented, stylish, perfect really Jared Leto. His speech was amazing. Jared who was at the event with his mum Constance and older brother Shannon said,

“In 1971, in Bossier City Louisiana, there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged here kids to be creative and work hard and do something special. That girl was my mother and she’s here tonight. I just want to say ‘I love you mom, thank you for teaching me to dream. To my brother Shannon, the best big brother in the world: Thank you so much for sharing this insane adventure that is 30 Seconds to Mars and for being my best friend.”

Leto also spoke about the dreamers in countries such as Ukraine and Venezuela,

“To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to to say we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen and live the impossible, we are thinking of you tonight.”

He ended his amazing speech by speaking about people who have lost their battle with AIDS and people who have been unjustly treated because of who they are and who they love,

“This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS. And to those of you who have ever felt injustice because of who you are and who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you.”

Stunning speech Jared.

Best Supporting Actress went to Lupita Nyong’o who said in her emotional speech  she said in reference to Patsey, the slave she played in the movie,

“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else’s.”

She ended her speech saying,

“When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from your dreams are valid.”

Sci-fi film Gravity won 7 gongs on the night including Best Director for Mr. Charming and Fabulous  Alfonso Cuaron.

Frozen won Best Original Song for Let It Go, sung by former Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel buying off stiff competition from Her, Ordinary Love from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Happy from Despicable Me 2.

Best Actor was presented to Matthew McConaughey, who received the award from Best Actress winner from last years Jennifer Lawrence and he said in a fab speech that he needed three things in his life to survive: God, his family and someone to look up to as a hero. He said that when he was 15 years old, he decided that hero would be himself in 10 years. Ten years later, he pushed the deadline back another decade. Then another decade.

“My hero’s always 10 years away. I’m never going to attain that. That keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”

The actor thanked God, his wife and children, his mother and his late father.

“First off, I want to thank God, because that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or of any other human hand,” McConaughey said. “He has shown me that … it’s a scientific fact that gratitude reciprocates. In the words of the late Charlie Laughton who said, ‘When you’ve got God you’ve got a friend — and that friend is you.’”

Cate Blanchett nabbed the Best Actress gong for Blue Jasmine and she received the award from the Best Actor winner from last year Daniel Day Lewis and said,

“Those in the industry who are foolishly clinging to the idea that female films, with women in the centre are niche experiences. They are not. Audiences want to see them. In fact they earn money.”

You go girl!

12 Years a Slave won Best Film with director Steve McQueen saying,

“The last word: everyone deserves not just to survive, but to live. This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup. I dedicate this award to all the people who have endured slavery. And the 21 million people who still suffer slavery today. Thank you very much. Thank you.”

Very passionate, powerful speeches this year.
