My Six Tips For Scottish Grand National Glory!

The Scottish Grand National will take place at Ayr tomorrow. It is the National as a punter I have the best record in so I’m hopeful of a good result tomorrow.

Below are my six tips for Scottish Grand National glory 2016:

Midnight Prayer

Cheltenham Festival - Champion Day

I had a good win with this horse one day and the team of jockey Wayne Hutchinson and trainer Alan King are an excellent combination. They often get some big price results.

Emperor’s Choice

Speaking of excellent combinations Emperor’s Choice is a big price and has another excellent team of jockey Aidan Coleman and trainer Venetia Williams who have also given me some big price results over the years.

Folsom Blue

My dear old friend Folsom Blue is one horse bidding to bag the 3 Nationals for trainer Mouse Morris. This horse is placed a lot.

Alvarado

alvarado

Like Folsom Blue, Alvarado is a horse that gets placed a lot. He can never be discounted.

Straidnahanna

Sue Smith’s Straidnahanna is a horse with a good chance tomorrow. This horse is there or thereabouts a lot.

Pineau De Re

Former English Grand National winner Pineau De Re is set to be ridden by Nico de Boinville who is a jockey who tends to get quite a few big price winners. I won nearly a hundred quid for just a few Euros on a horse that really expected to win once that he was on so with de Boinville on board a horse can never be discounted.

Rogue Angel Wins The Irish Grand National

The Mouse Morris trained Rogue Angel became the latest winner of the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse Racetrack today.

Winning at a starting price of 16/1 Ger Fox helped guide Rogue Angel home after leading from the start just holding off the Gordon Elliott trained Bless The Wings ridden by Ruby Walsh who was 12/1.

Third place went to 33/1 shot Ballyadam Approach with fourth going to Folsom Blue, Rogue Angel’s stablemate.

Winning jockey Ger Fox said following his win,

“I’m still pinching myself – I can’t believe it. This is my local track and I’m just trying to take it all in, it’s brilliant. I’ve only ridden him twice and he’s given me a Kerry National and an Irish National. My thanks go to Mouse Morris and Michael and Eddie O’Leary (of Gigginstown House Stud) for giving me the chance on him again. I did what I did in the Kerry National, just jumped out in front and let him do his own thing. He jumped from fence to fence and I think he only made two mistakes on the way round. What he has is guts and when he got headed, he battled back and got back up again. He never gives up. This means the world to me. Rides are getting slim at the moment, so to get something like this should be a great help.”

Mouse Morris paid tribute to his late son Christopher following the win,

“It’s unbelievable. Tiffer (Christopher) was looking down on me today. He helped me there. That’s just special.  I gave Ger no instructions. He knew the horse as he had rode him in Listowel and won a Kerry National on him, so there was no need for instructions. The fourth horse ran a blinder as well and I couldn’t be happier.”

My mum did two horses in the race Rogue Angel and Bless The Wings so it was very exciting in our house. I think she should have did the blog tips earlier! 🙂

Congrats Rogue Angel and all concerned and of course to my mum too! 🙂

Today’s the day!

The 2016 Irish Grand National takes place today at Fairyhouse Racecourse in Co. Meath with 29 runners going to post for the big race. Below I have compiled my five tips for glory. Good luck everyone! 🙂

Baie Des Iles

Welcome 2016 Raceday - Punchestown Races

The trip will suit Baie Des Iles. A really strong horse with a really good chance of success today.

Folsom Blue

folsom_blue-1024x426

Folsom Blue is a horse I’ve always liked. Quite underrated but hard-working and has a definite chance in this race.

Thunder And Roses

000a6662-642

You can’t really pass last year’s winner and if this horse did the double it wouldn’t shock me.

Kilford

Kilford Navan 12

This horse has a good chance. There is definite potential of Kilford coming close to glory or possibly even winning the race.

Raz de Maree

Raz De Maree

This horse has always been a good horse and I still believe there’s a lot of talent still present. Raz de Maree could make a winning return today.

Shutthefrontdoor Wins The Irish Grand National At Fairyhouse!

So much I know! 🙂 The Irish Grand National was won today by the favourite Shutthefrontdoor with Meath jockey Barry Geraghty on board.

It is the first time that Geraghty has won the Irish National in his home county despite major success in many prestigious races including his recent win this year aboard Jezki in the Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham and a Topham Chase win aboard Ma Filleule at Aintree respectively for trainers Jessica Harrington and Nicky Henderson. Both of which I had done. Wish I had today’s too! 🙂

Jonjo O’Neill trained Shutthefrontdoor and Geraghty stood in for the suspended Tony McCoy to win aboard by three-quarters of a length.

O’ Neill said,

“He was in a great position all the way and jumped really well. Everything went right for him. He has done nothing wrong all season. He had a great run at Chelthenham and after that we thought this was the race for him. Plan B didn’t work out too badly! He will have good rest and is hopefully okay and we can look forward to next season. He needed a big leap at the last, he got it and battled on really well.”

While Geraghty said:

“I’ve never even got close so to win it is brilliant. I thought turning in that I would win and then I was outpaced from the second-last, but going to the last I was getting going and I knew he was meeting it on a good stride a long way off. It means an awful lot – it’s brilliant.”

His owner J P McManus said,

“It’s a great race to win. Full marks to Jonjo, Barry and all the team at Jackdaws. It’s an exciting day. It’s disappointing for AP that he’s not here today as I’m sure he would have picked this horse. I wish both of them could have rode it but I feel sorry for AP that he’s not here.”

Congrats to all concerned! 🙂

The top 5 finished as follows:

1. Shutthefrontdoor

2. Golden Wonder (My sis had this horse! It was heartbreaking!)

3. Saoirse Dun

4. Jamsie Hall

5. Folsom Blue

Love Jamsie Hall and Folsom Blue. My two little pets! 🙂
