Dublin Gay Pride 2014!

Loving the sunglasses ladies!

Around 40,000 people took to the streets for the Dublin Pride parade this year and Marriage Equality, the amazing group campaigning for civil marriage rights for gay and lesbian people in Ireland were out in force encouraging people to register to vote.

Andrew Hyland, the director of Marriage Equality, said,

“It’s about Irish society evolving into a more progressive and inclusive State. The referendum is about saying yes to the full rights and equality of your family members and friends.”

Brian Sheehan, director of Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (Glen), said how Ireland,

“Has come an awful long way in a relatively short space of time. We’ve come from people tut-tutting at [the Pride parade] participants in the streets in the 1990s to recent years where people are bringing in their families to see the parade. It’s a great time to celebrate the visibility of LGBT people right across Irish life.”

If the referendum is passed, he said, it

“Would ensure that lesbian and gay people are treated equally under the Irish Constitution for the very first time”.

Jason Flynn, the chair of Dublin Pride said that this year’s parade came 40 years and a day after Irish Gay Pride Day when Irish gay and lesbian people demonstrated outside the Department of Justice for a change to anti-gay laws.

The annual gay pride celebrations started in Dublin in 1979, with the founding of the Hirschfeld Centre, but the beginnings of today’s Dublin Pride began in 1983 after the brutal and violent killing of Declan Flynn in Fairview Park who was just 31-years-old.

“The outrage and political will at the time really gathered and formed. Pride has a political origin and until we achieve something resembling full equality, Pride will always have that dimension.”

He also said how the referendum on same-sex marriage in early 2015 was a key political factor this year.

Broden Giambrone, chief executive of Transgender Equality Network Ireland (Teni), said,

“We’re really looking forward to it as an opportunity to promote the rights of trans people, specifically through the promotion of the upcoming gender recognition Bill.”

While David Carroll, the director of BeLonGTo, a youth group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender young people, said,

“There is an . . . incredible excitement and energy around the parade. While it is political in its origins . . . and while we still deal with . . . people who experience isolation and homophobic bullying, ultimately what Pride has become is a real day of celebration and affirmation.”

Jason Flynn agrees,

“Often the parade is a person’s first experience of being out there and being visible, it’s often people’s first expression of their true selves and that has a momentum all of its own.”

He also encouraged family, friends and the entire population to join in saying:

“We want Pride to be for everybody.”

The Dublin Pride parade started on the 28th of June at the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square at midday and ended at Merrion Square.

The wonderful Conchita Wurst with lucky fans in Ireland!

The wonderful Conchita Wurst with lucky fans in Ireland!

Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst performed at The George, in Dublin, on Friday 27th June, to celebrate this year’s Dublin Pride Festival in her first live performance in Ireland since her Eurovision win.

Darragh Flynn from The George said in the run-up to her much-anticipated performance,

“Since her win at Eurovision, Conchita has become a worldwide sensation. We are thrilled to have her perform again at the George and share in our Pride celebrations. Conchita embodies what The George is all about – acceptance, respect and fun – it’s going to be some party!”

While Conchita herself said,

“I’m really looking forward to performing at The George and being part of the Dublin Pride Festival. I want to spread my message of tolerance, acceptance and respect for people who are different – I know my Irish supporters will help me do just that.”

‘Rise Like a Phoenix’, her winning Eurovision entry was part of her set and Conchita said of the song’s important message,

“‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ is a powerful song that makes a strong statement, one that I can support 100%. No matter how hard things are, you can learn from these times and grow.”

Tom Neuwirth, as Conchita is known personally, created Conchita after his lifelong struggle against discrimination to encourage discussions on words like ‘different’ and ‘normal’.

“Only the person counts. Everyone should be allowed to live their lives as they see fit, as long as nobody else suffers for it.”

The George has been an important feature in the lives of the LGBT community in Ireland for over 25 years and has had many amazing perform including Alexandra Burke, Danyl Johnson, Diva Fever, Rylan, The Saturdays and Bananarama.

The event was presented by Shirley Temple Bar.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Pride! 🙂

Rest in peace Declan Flynn.

Union J’s Top JCat Oreo Dies. May He Rest In Peace.

I was really sad to hear about the death of Union J star Josh Cuthbert’s and his mate Jordan’s cat Oreo.

I love animals and I know the bond that exists between a pet and their owner from personal experience. I had a dog called Cookie for 12 years and he died in 2010. My family and I were heartbroken.

We still in a world sadly where people say it’s only a cat or it’s only a dog but pet owners know the pain that other pet owners go through on losing their pet when they have been through it themselves. You don’t just lose a pet, you lose your best friend, a pet who is like part of your family because they have been with you so long and a part of yourself really.

I was very sad to hear of Oreo’s death. Oreo was this sweet, little cat and I adored him as I do all the Union J pets. It is heartbreaking and then you see his little face again and it’s even more sadder.

Josh posted the following tweets on Twitter about Oreo:

#RIPOreo also trended on Twitter.

Here is Josh’s individual twitcam with little Oreo:

My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Josh, Jordan and everyone concerned at this sad time. May Oreo rest in peace.

Alanis Morissette And Mario Treadway’s Dog Circus Back Home!

Singer Alanis Morissette’s and rapper Mario Treadway’s adorable little 10lb Chihuahua/Pug mix Circus has been returned home safely. Circus has been brought home following Morissette reportedly suing her former housekeeper Maria Garcia for reportedly stealing Circus last month following her dismissal in January, according to reports.
However, TMZ has reported that Morissette’s attorney dropped the lawsuit against Garcia “because Circus is now safe and sound” at home once again.

Morissette reportedly sued Garcia for $25,000 and Treadway filed a lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court to help get Circus back in March, TMX reported.

TMZ reports that Maria wanted Circus as part of her severance when she was fired, according to the site after becoming close to the little dog while Morissette was on tour with her husband Treadway.

According to TMZ, Maria sent an email to the couple’s business manager when she lost her job, asking to own Circus. It is not known whether or not Maria brought the dog back herself or not.

So happy little Circus is back home. 🙂

The Voice UK Star Kiki De Ville and Husband Christopher’s Pain Over The Loss of Their Baby Dexter In 2007

Kiki with husband Christopher and baby Dexter.

Kiki deVille appeared on The Voice UK this year and sang Paloma Faith’s Stone Cold Sober at her blind audition but behind her bubbly personality the 40-year-old burlesque singer a personal message she wanted to share, about coping with the loss of her child and learning to live again following her loss.

Wearing two very important tattoos to her, she proved that. On her left wrist is: “As long as we are living our baby you will be.” This is in reference to her son Dexter who sadly died in 2007 at the age of just one month and three days while on her right wrist is the musical score to ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ which was the song that was played at his funeral.

“Turning 40 gave me a newfound confidence to audition for The Voice and reach so many people on a personal level. When you lose a child, you feel guilty for having a great day, for allowing yourself to feel happy. It took me a long time to accept you can enjoy life again. There were times during the show when people wondered if I was taking it seriously because I’m so upbeat and always laughing. But that’s just me. I have a realistic approach to life now. Nothing will ever be as serious as holding my little boy while he died.”

Kiki, whose real name is Kristianne Robinson, gave birth to Dexter on 12 September 2007 for her husband Christopher, 34. Dexter weighed 7lb 11oz and though an amniocentesis had shown that there might be a slight genetic abnormality, there were no chromosomal problems. Because of this Kiki and Christopher thought it was nothing serious.

“The birth had been perfectly normal but when Dexter came in to the world he wasn’t crying. He was very blue and needed resuscitating. I couldn’t suppress a feeling of uneasiness. As I cradled him, I thought back to the birth of my two older children from my previous marriage. Somehow things felt different and I knew something wasn’t right.”

However within just 24 hours, their fears were confirmed. Baby Dexter was moved to a special care unit while doctors told Kiki and Chistopher that he had Zellweger Syndrome. The rare genetic disorder meant he could not break down toxins and he had no muscle tone, so he couldn’t cry. Kiki and Christopher were told that there was no cure for Zellweger Syndrome and that babies rarely survive over six months old. The geneticist told them both that it was a one in 50 million chance that they would meet and both carry the faulty gene.

“Christopher and I stared at each other in shock and all I can remember is an overwhelming feeling that it couldn’t possibly be happening. As I looked at my baby’s perfectly formed, tiny little toes and fingers, I wanted to scream at the unfairness of it. How could someone so small and perfect be doomed to live such a short life?”

Dexter had seizures and could only be fed through a tube. They took Dexter to their home in Earby in Lancashire when he was seven days old.

“We decided we didn’t want the doctors to keep him alive just for our benefit. We had no idea how much pain he was in because he couldn’t cry and we were told he had a very severe form of Zellweger. We couldn’t bear the thought of him suffering. At one month old we had a birthday party for him – the only one we’d ever have. Everyone we knew came to celebrate with us: to say hello and goodbye. The following day, Dexter had a massive seizure. We took him to Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, where we lay with him for a few hours and he just slipped away. You never think you will have to hold your baby as he dies, but I look back now and take comfort that I was the one.”

A month later, as the pair struggled to cope with their loss, Kiki, who is originally from Melbourne in Australia, found out that she was pregnant again.

“We were petrified. There was a one in four chance this child would have the syndrome too. After an agonising seven-week wait, genetic tests showed our unborn baby had escaped. Still, I couldn’t believe we didn’t face the same heartache. I was on edge for the whole pregnancy but when Arlo Dexter came into the world on 16 July 2008 screaming the hospital down, we finally knew he was OK.”

In time, Kiki started to accept that it was alright to feel happy and wanted to ensure that Dexter’s death did not come to nothing and wanted to do something to help others in the same situation:

“I’m an ambassador for the hospice where Dexter died and want to do all I can to raise awareness of the vital work the charity Together For Short Lives does. They need all the support they can get – they only receive nine per cent funding from the Government.”

Three years ago Kiki founded a singing school. She also now performs each week. Though she was disappointed to be knocked out at the battle round stages of The Voice UK she feels she was successful in what she intended to do.

“I wanted to further my singing career, and now I’m being booked for bigger gigs like the Edinburgh Fringe, which I’m so excited about. But most importantly, I’ve had the chance to tell other mums and dads that there is life after the loss of a baby. OK, so things will never be the same again. I know I’m a different kind of ‘normal’ now. But it’s OK to love and laugh – and you don’t have to feel guilty about that.”

Rest in peace Dexter.

Peaches Geldof, rest in peace.

The mother-of-two young sons who was married to S.C.U.M band member Thomas Cohen and was daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates and sister to Pixie Geldof, Fifi Trixabelle Geldof and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence was found by police at her home in Wrotham in Kent, at 1.35pm. Kent Police said that her death was ‘sudden’ and ‘unexplained’.

Her father Bob said in his sad statement:

“Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. Writing ‘was’ destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is. Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken. Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and Tiger Geldof.'”

Attitude Magazine’s Attitude Love & Marriage issue On Sale Now!

Attitude Magazine’s Attitude Love & Marriage issue is currently on shelves and features Union J star Jaymi Hensley and his fiancé Olly Marmon who have become the first same sex couple to feature in advertising for popular wedding tailor Moss Bros. The couple, who will marry at the end of the year, feature in pictures wearing looks from the brand’s spring collection.

The happy couple, who have been together for over four years are seen in a touching clinch smiling at each other.

Jaymi previously said,

‘I’m getting married in December. It’s going to be a big day… Management have been trying to say the next tour is in December so maybe we’ll get married during the interval.’

The advert is a big departure for men’s formal-wear firm Moss Bros which was founded in 1851 and the national campaign aims to celebrate the historic change in British law which will, from 29th March, let same sex couples marry in England and Wales.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Brick said,

“Moss Bros are proud to welcome all couples in store and help dress them for the most important day of their lives – as we have done for the last eight generations.”

In order to realise this, Moss Bros joined forces with the magazine Attitude, as the fashion sponsor for its special issue ‘Attitude Love & Marriage’.

It is the first wedding magazine in the UK exclusively targeting the gay market. The collection is exclusively featured in “Attitude Love & Marriage” and 70 Moss Bros store windows nationwide.

Attitude Managing Director Mike Buckley said:

“This is history in the making and we are truly humbled that a British high street institution such as Moss Bros have shown their commitment to equal marriage by supporting our Love & Marriage special issue and dressing their windows to mark the partnership.”

Also featured in the issue of Attitude is Sir Elton John and David Furnish who are planning their wedding after gay marriage was legalised.

The couple were one of the first couples to enter into a civil partnership in December 2005 and eight years on the singer and filmmaker who have been together for more than 20 years and they have two sons, Zachary, three, and one-year-old Elijah, are planning their wedding day.

David Furnish wrote in Attitude magazine’s Love & Marriage special:

“Elton and I will marry – as a high-profile couple, we feel it is our duty to do it, to make sure that everyone knows that this is something that many gay men living in this country never dreamed would happen. When it was announced that gay couples were able to obtain a civil partnership, Elton and I did so on the day it came into law. As something of a showman, [Elton] is aware that whatever he says and does, people will sit up and take notice -so what better way to celebrate that historic moment in time. Our big day made the news, it was all over the internet within minutes of happening and front page news the next day. Elton and I both think there is a massive difference between calling someone your ‘partner’ and calling them your ‘husband’. Partner’ is such an impersonal word and doesn’t adequately describe the love we have for each other. When Zachary and Elijah are grown up and having children of their own, they will – hopefully – be living in a world where everyone can be equal, when being married isn’t about whether you’re straight or gay, but simply about being human.”

Also featuring is John Whaite and his boyfriend Paul Atkins who are the cover stars. They are discussing their country wedding.

Also featuring is Corrie actor Charlie Condou and his fiancé Cameron Laux.

Attitude Love & Marriage is out now.

L’Wren Scott Dies. May She Rest In Peace.

L'Wren Scott, rest in peace.

L’Wren Scott, rest in peace.

Today came the incredibly sad news that fashion designer L’Wren Scott was found dead in her New York City apartment Monday from an apparent suicide, according to many reports. Scott was the long-term girlfriend of Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger. She was only 49.

Scott, who was once a model, dated Jagger since 2001.

She owned her own eponymous fashion line, which she founded in 2006. Scott’s label was popular with celebrities, a lot of whom mourned her passing on their Twitter pages.

Her body was found by her assistant at 10:02 a.m. ET hanging from a scarf which was attached to a doorknob, the AP said while the wire service said no suicide note had been found, and that there was no sign of foul play. A medical examiner has of yet not confirmed the cause of the designer’s death.

It is really sad. She’s so young.

My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with her boyfriend and all the rest of her loved ones at this sad time. May she rest in peace.
