In The Night Kitchen By Maurice Sendak Review!

In the Night Kitchen

In The Night Kitchen (1970) by Maurice Sendak is a really great read.

In the story protagonist Mickey finds himself coming out of his sleep and appearing in the Night Kitchen where he meets three bakers who are busy creating the cake for the morning. It has a very dreamlike feel to it. There is not much plot but in a funny kind of way it still works. It teaches children about the work bakers do in a fun way. Really interesting for children interested in cooking or who want to be in the cooking profession when they are older.

The book is wonderfully illustrated and adds a lot to the storytelling. Every small detail is present like names on kitchen items and buildings. Excellent attention to detail. All the little details would help children to learn about the items and the buildings without it being boring to do so.

A great read.
