The Euros are down to the last four teams and on Sunday one team will be crowned champs. Rather exciting, ain’t it? Here is my review of the four left in contention and who I think will win.
Host nation France have bet us, the Republic of Ireland and Iceland (who I also loved in it.) so their path to the semis hasn’t been easy. Antoine Griezmann has been goal-scoring a lot for them and that looks set to continue. But I think the hosts may go out at the semis.
Germany have had a few shaky moments like their last match in the quarters against Italy when it went to penalties. But the thing about Germany is that even when they aren’t at their best they always find a way to pull through which is a great quality. Mario Gomez has been brilliant for them in this tournament and after getting a hamstring injury he will be missed by them for the rest of the competition but I still think they’ll make the final.
Portugal haven’t been hugely impressive in this tournament having came 3rd in their group and been brought to extra-time by Croatia in the last 16 and then to penalties by Poland in the quarters. It’s admirable that they held onto their position in the competition but there is only so long you can get luck for. Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player but he hasn’t had a great tournament so far.
Well Wales have been a revelation, haven’t they? I love their attitude and they have been so impressive. Their last 16 match against Northern Ireland was a close call and it was unfortunate for Northern Ireland how things turned out in that particular game. But Wales’ quarter-final match was incredible. Beating Belgium 3-1 they definitely earned their semi-final spot and I definitely think they have a great chance of making the final. Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams have been superb but as a team they have just been so strong and brilliant. Actually they are my tip to win the competition. My heart and my head are with Wales. Come on Wales! Yous’ can do it! 🙂
