There was an Irish winner in U2’s Ordinary Love, from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Larry Mullen said: “Not only South Africa, but thanks to Mandela, the course of history in our country, holy Catholic Ireland, was changed forever. Amen.”

Michael Fassbender from Kerry who was nominated for his role as a plantation owner in 12 Years a Slave lost out to Jared Leto who plays a HIV-positive transsexual female in Dallas Buyers Club in the best supporting section. Meanwhile Matthew McConaughey won best actor in a drama for Dallas Buyers Club.
